Tiare's Sanchez’s artistic evolution is rooted in sharing beautiful, fantastical forms through a personalized reinterpretation of mythological archetypes. She transfers her work from page and screen to skin, exploring the subliminal power of symbolism and imbuing each inking with intentional detail.
Her creative expression began at a young age, when she started swapping her surroundings with worlds she shaped for herself.
Describe your childhood.
My childhood was chaotic (my family lived with material deprivation and general poverty) but I grew up being loved by my brother and sisters. Experimenting with drawing was my lifeline. It helped me avoid and smooth most of my reality.

Mi niñez fue caótica (mi familia vivía en escasez material y pobreza general) pero crecí siendo amada por mi hermano y hermanas. Experimentar con el dibujo fue mi salvavidas. Me ayudó a evadir y suavizar la mayor parte de esta realidad.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in La Serena, a small city in northern Chile. Now I'm based in Santiago, the capital of Chile.

Were you creative as a child?
Yes, I’ve always had a connection with drawing. My father has an artist’s heart and always celebrated every drawing I did. I remember my childhood and adolescence excelling and evolving through drawing. I was very influenced by manga and animé.

Sí, siempre he tenido conexión con el dibujo. Mi padre tiene corazón de artista y siempre celebraba cada dibujo que yo hacía. Recuerdo mi niñez y adolescencia destacando y evolucionando por medio de dibujar. Tuve mucha influencia en el manga y animé.
What was your evolution like from artist to tattoo artist?
It wasn’t complicated for me to start tattooing. Doors opened easily to me through my drawings and illustrations—people trusted my purpose and accepted me as an apprentice in their tattoo studios.
My evolution as a tattoo artist was a roller coaster ride (and still is) because, at first, I had the idea to develop a style closer to animé/kawaii (full color and shining, so different to what I do today). As I learned more about the roots of traditional tattoo and how the techniques work with the skin through the years (as Neotraditional, New School, Traditional Japanese, etc) I decided to shift my style closer to the rules of neotraditional tattoo while still retaining my own style. Now I feel I've absorbed too many visual elements from neotraditional tattoo into my own drawing style.
¿Cómo fue la evolución de artista a tatuador?
No fue complicado para mí comenzar a tatuar, las puertas se me abrieron fácilmente por mis dibujos e ilustraciones, hubo gente que confío en mi propósito y me aceptaron como aprendiz en sus estudios de tatuajes.
Mi evolución como tatuadora fue subirme a una montaña rusa (y todavía lo es) porque, al principio, tenía la idea de desarrollar un estilo cercano al animé/kawaii (full color y brillantes, muy diferente a lo que hago hoy). Al aprender más acerca de las raíces del tatuaje tradicional y cómo las técnicas funcionan en la piel a través de los años (como el Neotradicional, New School, Tradicional Japonés, etc) decidí cambiar mi estilo más apegado a las reglas del Neotradicional mientras sigo conservando mi propio estilo. En este momento he absorbido muchos elementos visuales del neotradicional dentro de mi propio estilo de dibujo.
Why do you feel like you’ve absorbed too many visual elements from neotraditional tattoo?
I can see it in the elemental gestures, the visual codes, the ornamental and the comprehension about composition between the order of elements and colors. It’s given me new tools to develop my ideas and an easy way to read the images.
¿Qué te hace sentir que has absorbido demasiados elementos visuales del tatuaje Neo tradicional en tus dibujos?
Lo puedo ver en los gestos elementales, los códigos visuales, lo ornamental y la comprensión acerca de la composición entre el orden de elementos y colores. Me ha dado nuevas herramientas para desarrollar mis ideas y una fácil forma de leer las imágenes.
What is the process to get tattooed by you?
People usually learn about my work through Instagram or are recommended by people who follow me or were tattooed by me. I always emphasize that anyone booking a tattoo with me must check my portfolio first to see how I work in my own style. After that we have a conversation with photo references to get an idea about their concept. I suggest how I can develop the design and am usually given enough freedom to reimagine it in my own way. I also provide available designs that stem from my own ideas. Every design has a predetermined area where it will go, and I emulate how the tattoo will look by using 3D bodies to model the final look.
¿Cuál es el proceso cuando alguien quiere ser tatuado por ti?
Usualmente la gente aprende acerca de mi trabajo a través de Instagram o son recomendados por otras personas que me siguen o que fueron tatuados por mí. Siempre hago énfasis en que cualquiera que quiera agendar un tatuaje conmigo debe revisar mi portafolio primero para ver cómo trabajo mi estilo. Después se tiene una conversación con fotos de referencias para tener una idea acerca del concepto que buscan. Entonces sugiero cómo puedo desarrollar el diseño y usualmente se me da la libertad suficiente para reimaginar a mi manera. También ofrezco diseños que tengo disponibles que provienen de mis propias ideas. Cada uno de estos diseños está pensado para áreas específicas del cuerpo y los monto en cuerpos en 3D para que se pueda tener una previsualización de cómo quedará.
When did you start learning and experimenting with 3D?
I haven’t experimented in 3D for very long. I started learning because I feel a need to make my ideas in multiple disciplines and learn new mediums. My current goal is to take the pieces I make and 3D print them for people to collect. I recently discovered many people like my work but lack the resources to afford a tattoo or have a health condition that prevents them from getting one. Collectibles will allow my work to reach more people.
¿Cuándo comenzaste a aprender y experimentar con 3D?
No llevo mucho tiempo experimentando en el 3D. Comencé a aprender porque sentía una necesidad de hacer mis ideas en múltiples disciplinas y aprender nuevos medios. Mi objetivo actual es imprimir en 3D las piezas que voy moldeando para que la gente los coleccione. Hace poco descubrí que a muchas personas les gusta mi trabajo pero no tienen el suficiente presupuesto para costear un tatuaje o tienen alguna condición de salud que no les permite tener uno. Los trabajos coleccionables permitirán que mi trabajo llegue a más personas.
Do you have any photos or a hint at your first three 3D sculptures that will be collectible?
I have just one finished model :( For the moment I’m working on two parallel projects; one is a costume of my favorite drag artist and the second is about zodiac signs.

Where do your ideas come from?
I believe that ideas come from the act of creation. My principal motivation is to discover and share beauty and fantasy through everything I make. I’m also inspired by the effect other artists can make on me. It seems like a natural cycle where creative people continue to influence other creative through a chain that connects us.

Creo que esas ideas vienen en el momento de crear. Mi principal motivación es descubrir y compartir belleza y fantasía a través de todo lo que hago. También me dejo inspirar por el efecto que otros artistas provocan en mí. Esto es como un ciclo natural donde personas creativas continúan influenciando a otras personas creativas a través de cadenas que nos conectan.

Digital painting and tattooing. Tattooing requires a lot of precision to make the correct execution.

Which themes do you explore most with your work?
The expression of beauty and fantasy through the human figure and a personalized reinterpretation of mythological archetypes and symbols. I'm also exploring how symbolism works and the communicational methods found in every detail (I learned about this through tarot).

Are there any major life experiences behind your work?
The ability to meet other artists has helped me understand that everyone learns from everyone else and how important it is to share knowledge.

Do you experience any extra-sensory perception?
Nothing :( The closest I come is by reading tarot, which I’ve learned with a lot of study and practice.

Which is your favorite tarot card at the moment and why?
The Tower (la maison dieu) because I love the symbolism of using destruction to face reality; the card before to The Tower is The Devil, which represents how rest can make you stuck in a definitive form or structure, accepting limitations which form our own self-inflicting chains and are contrary to the movement of life. The implication is to always learn to move because life is movement. The card teaches us about how painful it is to wake up but how we can still grow, remembering that this card flows to the next card: The Star.
¿Cuál es tu carta favorita del tarot en este momento y por qué?
La Torre (La maison dieu) porque me encanta el simbolismo de que las cosas se desmoronan para enfrentar la realidad; la carta anterior a La Torre es El Diablo, el cual representa cómo la comodidad puede dejarte atascado bajo el alero de una estructura definitiva, aceptando las limitaciones que son representados bajo las cadenas que aceptamos llevar algo contrario al movimiento de la vida. Esto implica siempre aprender a moverse porque el movimiento es vida. Ésta carta nos enseña cuán doloroso es despertar pero al mismo tiempo cuánto podemos crecer, recordando que la siguiente carta que fluye después de La Torre es La Estrella.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’m someone with autism spectrum traits. I like to collect tarot decks and all things Final Fantasy (like figures, books, games, especially IX, XII and Tactics).

Soy una persona que cae dentro de un rango del espectro autista. Me gusta coleccionar mazos de tarot y muchas cosas de Final Fantasy (como figuras, libros, juegos, especialmente IX, XII y Tactics)
What does your dream project look like?
This question is a little complicated because I want to reach too many things at once. I don’t have just one project in mind. I think the most near is to become a multifaceted visual artist, receive a bachelor of Fine Arts and create workshops from my skills. I really like to teach.

Ésta pregunta es un poco complicada porque quiero lograr muchas cosas al mismo tiempo. No tengo sólo un proyecto en mente. Creo que lo más cercano es volverme una artista visual multifacética, estudiar alguna carrera relacionada con Bellas Artes y desarrollar talleres con las cosas que sé. Me gustaría mucho enseñar.
If you could design a world of your own, what would it be like?
One where there aren't too many rules, structures or limits. This reality we share has too many rules in order for things to “work” the correct way, making the real freedom seem to only exist in our mind and dreams.
Si pudieras diseñar tu propio mundo, ¿cómo sería?
Uno donde no hubiera muchas reglas, estructuras o límites. Esta realidad que compartimos tiene demasiadas reglas que ponen orden para que las cosas “funcionen” de manera correcta, haciendo que la verdadera libertad sólo exista en nuestras mentes y sueños.
